Horses, like humans, can have problems when it comes to their teeth. The solution to these problems is also the same for both: talking to a dentist. The first place you should check is your own vet. They may have some experience with equine dentistry and be able to perform the work for you. This is obviously a bonus because you are already familiar with the quality of their work. If they can’t perform the procedure, have them refer you to someone else that they know.

However, if they do refer you to someone that does equine dentistry but is not a vet, you may run into problems. In many states, dentists that are not vets must work alongside somebody that is one to work on your horse’s teeth.

Even if it’s not illegal in your state, you should still consider having a vet work alongside the dentist. While the dentist may understand the horse’s teeth very well, they may not understand what the horse needs. That is where the vet can pick up the slack.
